Pegged Tachometer representing speedy Used Car Pricing Tool

The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.

A tool is something we use to assist us with a job.  A skilled tool user will always complete a job quicker and with better results than a novice.  Sometimes this is so because they have more experience. And other times, they use a better tool for the job.

There are many tools you can use to help you determine the value of a used car. Some are better and easier to use than others.

RPM Fair Value

Full value, fair value, trade-in value, private party value, dealer price, retail price, wholesale price; these are just some of the terms used to describe the price of a used vehicle.  We agree with you that it can be a bit confusing and overwhelming, difficult to understand and appear cloaked in a mystery; a regular enigma.

That is why we have developed RPM Fair Value Pricing.  We want to remove the guesswork out of determing a reasonable price you can expect to obtain for your used vehicle. The RPM Fair Value Price takes into account the year, make model, miles, condition of the vehicle and the difficulty level of selling it. The RPM Fair Value Pricing model compares your vehicle against real time pricing data coming from wholesale auto auctions across the country.  We factor in a reasonable rate of return for our service and then present you with a Fair Value Price in the form of an offer to Buy Your Car Today!  No wishing, hoping, guessing or mystery. A simple yes or no offer to Sell Your Car Today!

Their editors analyze the raw data and add value to it through insight driven by experience. Their primary focus is serving many companies in the automotive retail marketplace from OEM’s to Banks, Captive Lenders, Retail Dealers and Industry Insiders.

They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Hearst Business Media Corporation. Their website says that since 1955 they have been a trusted choice of automotive insiders sharing what they know with other car people. They are car people serving car people.

We have used them and relied upon their used car valuations since the early 1990’s. Historically, their wisdom and market valuations were not available to the general public. Recently that has changed.

Although you can not visit their website directly to access their data and analysis, they have recently been providing data solutions to some of their customers who directly serve the general public.

One such customer, is CUDL (CU Direct Corporation), a leading provider of indirect lending services to the credit union industry. Their website contains a vast source of reliable information for any new or used car shopper.

You may visit the CUDL website directly by clicking on this link: Trade In Values. Choose the Black Book link to obtain their estimate of your car’s value.

Woman with a Megaphone talking about Kelley Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book Valuations

From their modest beginnings in 1918 to the first published Blue Book in 1926, Kelley Blue Book has been at the forefront of the automobile valuation business.

Today Kelley is part of the Cox Automotive family of companies that spans the automotive ecosystem worldwide and includes industry stalwarts such as; Autotrader, Manheim Auto Auctions and Ready Auto Transport.

Prior to the launch of kbb.com in 1995, the Kelley Blue Book thrived as a trade publication used only by businesses in the automotive industry (primarily dealers, banks and insurance companies).  Despite the industry affiliations, consumers became aware of the name since most dealers relied on the published books for a valuation starting point and would tell the consumer the “book value” of their car.

Insiders knew however that the older books were highly inaccurate, usually out of date and unreliable for true valuation purposes.  Many a “green” used car manager lost his job by trading for vehicles at the “book” value since the dealer subsequently would lose money when attempting to resell the vehicle to knowledgeable traders.  Experienced managers were required to hold in their mind, a set of values that were referred to as “back of book”, a number that would be subtracted from the book value in order to ascertain a correct trade value for each vehicle.

All that has changed in recent years, primarily since Kelley’s affiliation with the Cox Automotive Group.  Kelley is now able to rely upon the raw data coming from the Manheim Auctions to more accurately ascertain the proper valuations of a used vehicle.

You can find the Kelley Blue Book value for your vehicle at many locations.  Our favorite site to refer our customers to is CUDL (CU Direct Corporation), a leading provider of indirect lending services to the credit union industry. Their website contains a vast source of reliable information for any new or used car shopper.

As with any tool, proper use is required to obtain satisfactory results. Be honest with the questions about the condition of your vehicle and you will receive a reliable estimate of your car’s worth.
